Welcome to Kumamoto

Kumamoto is the second largest prefecture in Kyushu. It is rich in beautiful
nature with Mt. Aso in the east boasting one of the world’s biggest calderas and
the Amakusa island chain in the west with its 120 islands.
Kumamoto city is home to Kumamoto castle, one of the three largest castles in
Japan. It has prospered as a castle town since the Edo era.
Kumamoto city is famous for the underground water which it supplies to its
700,000 citizens and is called the capital of water and forests.
